/Thursday / Sunday

Explore one of the largest ancient sites of the world.

Tour Information

Ephesus was an ancient Greek city built in the 10th century BC and is one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League.  The city is famed for the Temple of Artemis and is one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.

Ephesus is also one of the seven churches of Asia and is cited in the Book of Revelation and throughout the Bible.

The largest collection of Roman ruins in the Eastern Mediterranean, Ephesus is only around 15% excavated.  The visible ruins however, give you an idea of the splendour of the city.  See the:

Temple of Artemis – now only represented by one inconspicuous column.

Library of Celsus – the facade has been carefully reconstructed from original pieces.

Temple of Hadrian – re-erected from surviving architectural fragments.

Temple of Sebastoi -  sometimes called the Temple of Domitan.

Theatre – with an estimated seating for over 24,000 and believed to be the largest outdoor theatre in the ancient world.  Concerts took place into the 1990’s and artists such as Elton John, Diana Ross and Sting have performed there.  However, the concerts had to be stopped as the foundations were being damaged.

Tomb/Fountain of Pollio – with its concave facade.

St Johns Basilika and so much more.  A must see destination of any visitor to Turkey.
